How to choose a dog walker, boarder or day care in Liverpool
Here's what to check before you hand over your dog's lead.
1. Check the council licence (boarding and day care)
In England, businesses that board dogs or run dog day care must hold an animal activity licence from their local council. Liverpool City Council publishes a register of licensed operators with a star rating out of 5. Ask for the licence number and check it matches. On Happy Dog Liverpool we show it on every licensed listing: see boarding and day care.
2. Ask about insurance
Ask to see public liability insurance and care, custody and control cover.
3. Meet first
A good walker or boarder will want to meet you and your dog before the first booking, and should ask about health, behaviour, feeding and your vet.
4. Ask practical questions
- How many dogs do you walk or board at once?
- Are dogs walked on or off lead, and where?
- What happens if my dog is ill or injured?
- Will you send updates or photos?
- What's your cancellation policy?
5. Trust your gut
If your dog comes home anxious, exhausted or hurt, ask questions straight away.
